Jaysus. This is the stuff that disaster movies are made of.
From the harsh winters of ’09 and ’10 to the disastrous floods of the winter just gone, we’ve had our fair share of fairly serious inclement weather in these parts in the last few years but much as we like to complain about the climate, we know that it’s far more extreme in other parts of the world.
As if to illustrate, stormchasers in the state of Wyoming in the US captured footage of a thunderstorm that falls under the category of a low-precipitation supercell (LP supercell) at the weekend that would frighten the living bejaysus out of everyone apart from the aforementioned stormchasers who get a kick out getting up close and personal with this type of thing.
While they would have been forgiven for running a mile away from it, it’s a good job they did keep up with it because they captured some extraordinary footage in the timelapse video you can see above and for a taster of what’s in store, just look at the still image below…
