Sydney has always played host to one of the most spectacular New Year’s Eve celebrations in the world and they didn’t disappoint this time around.

While we’re all anxiously building up to celebrating the arrival of 2014 a little later on tonight, many of your close friends and relatives – everyone has Irish friends and relatives in Australia at this stage, right? – will have already rang in the New Year Down Under and are still probably heartily ringing it in as we speak.

All of the big cities put on very impressive firework displays but no place in Australia and arguably on the planet does it quite like Sydney and it was business as usual in the country’s biggest city this time around.

As usual, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House formed the centrepiece of the show, but as the long-range shots in the video above show, pretty much everyone in and around the city would have been able to catch a glimpse of the dazzling display.

Taking in a New Year’s ceremony in Sydney is something that quite a lot of people have on the bucket list and you can see why in fairness.

Happy New Year ya flamin’ galahs.
