As Father Ted might say, the money must have been just resting in her middle drawer…

Are you the type of person who would hand in a wallet with all of the money inside if you came across it on a bus or found it on the street? How about if you came across nearly a hundred grand in cash in a desk you bought online off a woman who obviously had forgotten it was there in the first place.

JOE readers are blessed with remarkable integrity, of course, so we know that absolutely all of you would be the good Samaritan but we’d wager that there would be a decent percentage of the general population who would keep schtum and hold onto the sizeable wedge of cash that a Connecticut rabbi discovered after the delivery of a desk he bought for $200 on Craigslist.

Having had to take apart the desk to fit it into an office in his house, rabbi Noah Muroff must have been a bit taken aback when he discovered cash to the sum of $98,000 stored in a plastic bag inside.

After discussing the discovery with his wife, Muroff decided to call the original owner to go about returning the money, which, apparently, was inheritance money that the lady owner had hid in a desk and subsequently forgotten about. As you do.

Orthodox Jewish news blog Vos Iz Neias posted a picture of the thank-you note that the owner sent to Muroff which read: “I can not thank you enough for your honesty and integrity. I do not think there are too many people in this world that would have done what you did by calling me. I do like to believe that there are still good people left in this crazy world we live in. You certainly are one of them.”

Top man.
