While most of us look forward to Christmas as a time to catch up with old friends and get out for a few nights on the town, it is usually the busiest time of year for people working in the emergency services.

The work that they do often goes unappreciated but it was nice to see the Dublin Fire Brigade get a hearty reception from onlookers after rescuing a man who had fallen into the Grand Canal on Baggot Street on Wednesday night.

The video below was sent into us by Dean Kelly, who came across the scene on Wednesday night and watched on as members of the Fire Brigade brought the man out of the canal and escorted him to safety (beware of one instance of NSFW language towards the end of the clip).

Fair play lads.
