WATCH: The British MP who thought he was entitled to an Irish passport is back with more nonsense

Carl Kinsella

British MP

Does everyone remember Andrew Bridgen? No?

Well allow us to refresh your memory.

Bridgen is the pro-Brexit Tory MP who recently said that he was entitled to travel to Ireland at any time he so chose and claim an Irish passport. We all had a good laugh about it.

Now, the Bridgeman is back with more of his thoughts about Ireland and Brexit, and he’s sounding just about as well-informed as ever.

Speaking on Sky News yesterday, Bridgen said: “The European Union are desperately seeking to avoid the good people of the Republic of Ireland, who are still in the European Union looking across a virtual border into Northern Ireland, a land of milk and honey, where we’ve got free trade deals with countries around the world that they can’t join into”.

Bridgen said that Ireland would leave the EU “even faster” if the EU enforced the hard border. He had nothing to say about the UK’s responsibility for such a border existing in the first place, in case you were wondering.

According to the most recent Eurobarometer poll, 85% of Ireland would currently vote to remain in the EU. There is no other EU country where the EU is more popular.

Asked by a somewhat incredulous Adam Boulton whether he genuinely believed that Ireland would want to leave European Union, Bridgen said: “If we get out of the European Union and we can do free trade deals, it will be irresistible for lots of reasons”.
