WATCH: This wedding speech in the style of Fairytale of New York is excellent

Paul Moore

“It was Christmas Eve babe.”

We’ve written extensively about why we believe that Fairytale of New York is the greatest Christmas song of all time, have a read of this if you need further proof, but if you’re looking for another reason to fully embrace the magic of the iconic song by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl, then this is for you.

During the recent wedding reception of Fiona and Fergus Folan, Triona Ní Chualáin decided to channel her inner Shane MacGowan by blasting out her own unique version of the world’s most beloved Christmas song.

Fair play to Triona for expertly tailoring the lyrics of the heartwarming ballad to tell the story of the newly married couple from Connemara.

It’s fair to say that those in attendance at the Salthill Hotel in Galway were pleasantly surprised by what unfolded. Still though, we wonder if anyone ended up “in the drunk tank” at the end of the night!

Take a look.
