And the week had started out so promising as well…

Met Éireann have issued a weather warning for four counties in the west of Ireland on what looks set to be a pretty miserable St. Patrick’s weekend.

The status yellow warning, issued on Thursday evening for Donegal, Mayo, Galway and Sligo, is valid from 9am this morning and will last until 9am on Sunday morning, when many of you may be nursing a hangover in your comfy, comfy beds.

Spells of heavy rain are expected throughout Friday and Saturday, with rainfall accumulations of 50 to 80mm expected in those four counties over a 48 hour period. Areas of high ground in the west of the counties will be the worst affected.

Most of Ulster and parts of west Munster will also bear the brunt of heavy rainfall on Paddy’s Day, which will turn windy by nighttime ahead of a cloudy and misty day on Saturday, when temperatures will be a fairly mild 11 to 14 degrees.

Sunday and the beginning of next week don’t sound much better, with frost, icy roads and even snow promised in places.

Might be best to stay inside for a while, there is a fine weekend of sport in store after all.
