Weather warning

Be careful out there.

Significantly blustery conditions are set to continue in Ireland with the announcement of a fresh pair of Status Yellow weather warnings.

Per the latest from Met Éireann, two new warnings will come into effect from noon on Thursday (24 February).

The first warning is for Galway and Mayo.

According to the national forecaster, strong west to northwest winds with gusts of up to 110 kilometres per hour will impact both counties.

The warning will remain in place until 6pm on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a second Status Yellow wind warning is valid from 1pm on Thursday, affecting DonegalLeitrim and Sligo.

Very strong west to northwest winds are forecast, with speeds of up to 110 kilometres per hour anticipated.

Donegal will be subject to “significantly” higher gusts, however, particularly on coastal areas in the late afternoon and evening.

Met Éireann has also highlighted the prospect of fallen trees, large coastal waves and general hazardous driving conditions for the public to be mindful of.

This warning is in place until 8pm on Thursday.

A pre-existing nationwide Status Yellow warning for snow and ice will expire at midday.

Meanwhile, a separate Status Yellow warning from the UK Met Office remains valid until 8pm.

This warning refers to frequent heavy snow showers, very gusty winds and a chance of lightning in Antrim, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.
