Met Éireann gives update on weather warnings for this weekend

A mixed few days ahead, it seems...

Despite Friday morning starting out nice, Met Éireann has predicted that the weather will be changing a lot throughout the day and into the weekend. The national forecaster has warned of thundery downpours and a risk of spot flooding for Friday as a weather warning is set to come into play from Friday evening. Rain and clouds are set to start in the west and southwest throughout Friday morning before moving over the rest of the country with scattered showers to follow. Met Éireann said: "There will be heavy and possibly thundery downpours at times, giving a risk of spot flooding." While temperatures remain high, it will be warmest in the southwest reaching 19 degrees but will drop to 10 degrees overnight. Rain is then expected to continue with the aforementioned Status Yellow rain and thunderstorm warning in place from 6pm on Friday evening until 6pm on Saturday in Munster and Connacht, affecting 11 counties in total. Met Éireann added: "Heavy showers or longer spells of rain with thundery downpours in some places may lead to spot flooding, with the highest rainfall totals likely to be near the west coast on high ground.” The east of the country is expected to see clearer conditions with isolated showers on the way. Saturday is expected to be “an unseasonably cold, windy and wet day – rain will continue over the western half of the country, heavy at times. Mostly dry further east to start, the rain will spread across the country later in the day. Highest temperatures of 11 to 17 degrees, coolest in the west, in fresh to strong and gusty southerly or variable winds." Sunday will see "a mix of sunny spells and widespread heavy and possibly thundery showers. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly or variable winds."
