Mix of dry spells and rain forecasted for the weekend

Stephen Porzio

Met Éireann has described the weather to come as “changeable”.

Ireland is in store for a mix of dry spells and rain this weekend, according to Met Éireann.

The national weather forecaster’s overview for the coming days says conditions will be “changeable” with rain and showers at times and temperatures in the mid to high teens.

In terms of Thursday’s weather, it will be dry in the morning and for a large part of the day across much of the eastern half of the country where there will be some early bright spells.

However, it will be cloudy elsewhere with outbreaks of rain and drizzle in western coastal counties, which will spread further east later in the day.

Rain will turn heavier and more persistent on western coasts in the evening, with temperatures ranging from 17 to 20 or 21 degrees.

It will be cloudy overnight with scattered outbreaks of rain to begin. That is before a heavy and more persistent band of rain will cross the country eastwards which may lead to spot flooding.

Friday will then be wet across the eastern half of the country with overnight rain continuing and further heavy falls.

That said, it will brighten up quickly in the west and south with sunshine developing and showers to follow.

Rain will linger in eastern and northeastern counties into the evening as temperatures will be between 16 and 18 degrees.

Saturday will be largely dry with sunny spells to begin with and a few showers, but rain will push into western counties later in the afternoon. Temperatures will range from 15 to 18 degrees.

Overnight rain will then linger in many parts during Sunday. However, temperatures will hover between 15 to 18 degrees as it becomes drier and brighter later in the day.

Heading into next week, there will be a good deal of dry weather on Monday, with scattered showers moving in from the west through the day mixed with sunny spells. Temperatures will range from 15 to 18 degrees.

Met Éireann says current indications show Tuesday will have similar temperatures with a mix of showers and bright spells.
