What a shower; Galway TD reckons water charges could result in us washing less

Noel Grealish comes up with a new way to kick up a stink in the Connacht Tribune.

As we have seen in recent days, the roll out of water charges is certainly the most controversial topic in political circles in 2014. From arguments over who knows what about consultant’s fees to how much we will all be charged, the subject has managed to squeeze onto the news virtually every day.

And now Galway West TD Noel Grealish has conjured up a new angle on why water charges are a bad idea. He tells this week’s Connacht Tribune that water charges may make us spend less time giving ourselves a good scrub in the shower, while those less well off may take fewer showers.

And even if some of you save up the money to hop in for a wash, you may spend less time in the shower. Especially if you are female.

“But the day of the young woman spending 20 minutes under a shower before she goes out on a Saturday night will certainly become a thing of the past,” Deputy Grealish is quoted as saying.

In fairness Noel, everyone knows us lads are the longest in the shower anyway…
