Met Éireann forecast “wintry falls” and “frosty nights” as cold Easter beckons

Easter

What feels like the longest winter ever isn’t over yet.

Just when it seemed as if the weather was about to turn after some fine days earlier in the week, it seems as if conditions more like what we’ve been accustomed to recently are about to return.

Talk of a ‘Beast from the East 3.0’ has filtered into general conversation in the last week or so and while the type of weather that brought the country to a standstill might not be on the way back, the forecast for the Easter weekend doesn’t sound very spring-like.

This coming weekend will be pretty cold, with temperatures dropping to -2 on Saturday night and again on Sunday and afternoon temperatures staying in single digits until Monday.

After lots of rain early next week, meanwhile, it is towards the Easter weekend when things will begin to take a turn, with Met Éireann forecasting “cold and unsettled weather” with “wintry falls”, mainly in northern and northeastern counties at times, and frosty nights throughout the country.

We’re not getting our hopes up, but summer 2018 has a lot of making up to do.
