The incident occurred yesterday afternoon.
A woman has died after being found unresponsive in the water off the coast of the popular north Dublin beach Portmarnock Strand.
In a statement to JOE, Gardaí say they were alerted to the incident on Monday afternoon (7 October).
According to multiple reports, an alarm was raised after the woman was spotted in difficulty while swimming.
A Garda spokesperson says the woman – aged in her 60s – was found unresponsive in the water at the Portmarnock beach by the Irish Coast Guard shortly after 3pm.
“She was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased,” the spokesperson added.
“Gardaí were notified and the Coroner has since been informed. A post-mortem examination will be arranged.”
Foul play is not suspected in the incident.
