Woman in her 70s seriously injured after Louth hit and run

The hit and run occurred around lunchtime yesterday by a stolen SUV.

A woman in her 70s has been hospitalised with serious injuries following a hit and run in Louth.

The woman was hit by a stolen vehicle on the Armagh Road at the junction with the Toberona Road, located in Dundalk.

It has been confirmed by Gardaí that the incident took place shortly after 1pm yesterday, December 15.

Gardaí and emergency services were both called to the scene.

The woman was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and is being treated for what are believed to be serious injuries.

The two occupants of the stolen SUV fled the scene on foot and have yet to come forward.

The road has been re-opened to traffic following a technical examination of the scene, as well as an investigation of the vehicles involved.

In a statement, Gardaì said: “Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

“In addition, road users who may have dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the incident are also urged to contact Gardaí.”
