Woman killed in suspected hit and run on Dublin’s northside

Garda are appealing for any witnesses to the collision.

Garda have confirmed that a woman in her 60s has been killed in a suspected hit and run in Phibsborough, north Dublin on Wednesday evening, October 4.

The incident occurred at the Cross Guns Bridge on Phibsborough Road near the Bald Eagle pub at approximately 9.10pm.

It is understood that the woman was crossing the road when she was struck by the vehicle travelling at speed from the Glasnevin direction. The driver failed to remain at the scene.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was removed from the scene and a postmortem will take place in due course.

Garda are now appealing to witnesses or those in the area around the time, including anyone with dashcam footage.

In a statement to JOE, a Garda spokesperson said:

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision at the Cross Guns Bridge on Phibsborough Road, Dublin 7, which occurred at approximately 9.10pm on Wednesday 4th October 2023.

“The collision involved a car and a pedestrian. A woman in her 60’s was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later. Her body has since been removed from the scene. A post mortem will take place in due course.

“The car involved failed to remain at the scene.

“The scene of the collision is preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The section of road from Cross Guns Bridge to the junction of Phibsborough Road and Connaught Street is closed and local diversions are in place.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

“Any road users with camera footage (including dashcam) who travelled in the Phibsborough area between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday 4th October 2023 are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

“An incident room has been set up at Mountjoy Garda Station.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mountjoy Garda station on 01 666 8600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
