Man charged as seventh woman killed this year in Ireland

Women's Aid say the number of women killed violently in Ireland in 2026 so far is the same as last year.

Adina Raluca Constantin who was aged in her 50s, died after Gardai were called to an apartment in the town around 12:30 in the afternoon.

Eugen Constantin, of Lakeshore House, Church Street in Portlaoise, was brought before Portlaoise District Court on Tuesday morning.

Mr Constantin was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison and is due to appear in court again on 13 July via video link.

Ms Constantin was originally from Romania and had been living in Ireland for the last 15 years, working in a medical clinic in Portlaoise.

Constantin is the seventh woman to be killed in the Republic of Ireland this year.
