Gardaí say the woman implied that she had coronavirus.

A woman in her 30s was arrested in Sligo earlier today, after Gardaí broke up a “group of individuals congregated and drinking at Newfoot Bridge” in Riverstown. The incident occurred at around 3.15pm on Tuesday (7 April).

A statement released by An Garda Síochána says that one of the women present “refused to provide her details to Gardaí and then proceeded to allegedly cough on a member, implying that she had coronavirus.”

A spokesperson for the Gardaí confirmed that the woman was arrested for public order offences, and was taken to Ballymote Garda Station where she has since been charged.

She is due to appear before a special sitting of Carrick On Shannon District court this evening at 8pm.

The woman is in her 30s.

People are being told to adhere to social distancing rules in order to restrict the spread of Covid-19, and advised to stay at home for all non-essential reasons (such as getting medicine, buying food, working an essential job, or exercising within a 2km radius).
