Joe Biden will “protect the Good Friday Agreement” if elected, says Congressman

Democratic Congressman Brendan Boyle has told Irish-American voters that if elected, Joe Biden will be a "friend to Ireland". Speaking on Thursday evening at a virtual rally addressed at Irish voters in America, Boyle said that Biden would be an ally to Ireland if he is elected in November. He said: "We fortunately have many allies on Capitol Hill. One place that has not been an ally is the Oval Office. "What a refreshing change it will be to have Joe Biden come this January. To have someone who supports the Good Friday Agreement and wants to protect it. "Someone who is not mindlessly cheerleading for Brexit no matter the cost." Biden, like many other US presidents, traces his roots back to Ireland, specifically Louth and Mayo. He visited Ireland while he was Obama's vice-president back in 2016. Controversially, Biden recently said that the black community in America is "not as diverse" as the Latino one. He since clarified his comments, saying: "I will always listen, I will never stop fighting for the African American community and I will never stop fighting for a more equitable future." The US election is due to take place on 3 November, though Donald Trump has recently called for it to be delayed.
