Sean Gallagher aggravates “old Judo injury”, will be on crutches for forseeable future

His campaign was briefly stopped on Tuesday as he had to go to hospital.

The 2018 Presidential Election has been weird to say the least.

So far, we’ve had Peter Casey smashing a golf ball into the sea, before posting on Twitter the following day to claim that he had retrieved the ball.

We’ve had three (yes, three) Dragons Den judges throw their hats into the ring.

And even if we go back as far as Monday night, we had an absolutely bizarre televised debate, which two candidates didn’t even compete in.

So yeah, it’s been weird. And now we have this.

Sean Gallagher went to hospital on Tuesday after aggravating an old Judo injury in the gym.

Gallagher, or a member of his social media team, announced the news on Twitter, saying: “Quick Update: Seán had an unplanned campaign stop today, visiting hospital after aggravating an old Judo injury in the gym. He has torn a quadriceps ligament in his right knee & has been told to use a knee brace and crutches for the next few weeks.”

A follow up tweet of him working away despite the injury was posted shortly afterwards.

On Monday, Gallagher said that President Higgins’ decision not to participate “shows contempt for the integrity of our electoral process”.

Gallagher himself refused to take part in the debate, and claimed he would only do so if Michael D Higgins also participated.
