The Presidential ballot has been finalised, thus confirming the six candidates running in the upcoming election.

Peter Casey, Sean Gallgher, Gavin Duffy, Joan Freeman, Liadh Ní Riada and current President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins will be on the ballot on 26 October.

So over the course of the next few weeks, prepare to see each of them claim that they are the best person for the job, and, in some cases, explaining why the opposing candidates are not as capable.

The campaigning has already begun for a number of the candidates, including current President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, who released a video on Twitter on Wednesday urging people to vote for him come 26 October.

But all of this campaigning will come to a head on 15 October, when RTÉ One will be hosting a live televised debate between all of the Presidential candidates.

The official Twitter page for Claire Byrne Live announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday night.

No candidates have responded to the invitation just yet, so it will be interesting if they all decide to take part.

If you are interested in being in the audience for the event, send an e-mail to [email protected].
