Presidential candidate Peter Casey is being slammed for a campaign video posted on Twitter.

Casey, who is an American citizen partially based in Atlanta, Georgia, is one of three members of the Dragons’ Den cast to enter the race — alongside Sean Gallagher and Gavin Duffy.

On October 26, Casey will be one of the names on the ballot alongside incumbent Michael D. Higgins, Senator Joan Freeman and Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada.

The 60-year-old businessmen has been lambasted on social media this week after he posted a video of himself whacking a golf ball into the ocean alongside the caption “This is the only driver I’ll be bringing to the Áras when I get elected”. The implication here is presumably that he’ll drive himself around as president, which really doesn’t seem like that cool a selling point.

The tweet received just nine retweets, and 178 replies — which is never a good sign.

Indeed, Casey has been flooded with criticism, with many outraged over the wilful pollution of Irish water for the purpose of a political message.

Among the critics is Fianna Fáil TD Sean Sherlock, who labelled Casey an “#eejit” over his actions.
