A report published this evening suggests that up to 1,000 Ireland fans will be turned away from the stadium in Copenhagen for the first leg of Ireland’s play-off against Denmark.

Tickets for the match, which will take place on Saturday evening, were in high demand once the draw was made, but the Danish FA has made it clear that anybody trying to bypass the ticketing system will not have any luck.

The FAI were allotted a certain number of tickets for Irish fans, and any fan who tried to buy tickets online in the home section will find that their tickets will not be mailed to the Irish address they provided, according to a report in The Irish Times.

The Times has reported that the Danish FA communications director has put his foot down on Irish fans who bought tickets outside of the allotted Irish section. He said “I presume that these supporters have not been able to get tickets in the Irish section and have panicked and bought tickets for other parts of the ground. They might be thinking that it will be okay but it will not be okay. We will be quite strict about this.”

He also estimated that the number of fans affected by this could be as many as 1,000.
