The sending off of Jared Payne was pivotal as Ulster came up just short at Ravenhill.
Ulster are out of the Heineken Cup after losing 17-15 to Saracens at Ravenhill.
The home side were left up against from as early as the fourth minute, when Jared Payne was sent off for a late tackle on Alex Goode.
Ulster managed to go into the break 9-5 up, with three Ruan Pienaar penalties trumping a Chris Ashton try.
However, further tries from Ashton and Mouritz Botha – as well as an Owen Farrell conversion – saw Saracens grab a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish despite two late penalties from Paddy Jackson.
