“For England, it’s like doing the Mocks after the Leaving Cert…utterly pointless!”

Aside from the goals, drama, heartache, and  euphoria that defines a World cup campaign, it’s not the greatest football competition in the world without the Apres Match lads providing punditry on the match that nobody wants to play in enthralling third-place play-off.

As the RTE football panel frequently do, fans have been treated to some heated debate, riveting TV and classic ‘Dunphyisms’ as the tournament unfolded.

In recent years, the England squad weren’t the most ‘likeable’ personalities but there’s a growing consensus that Gareth Southgate’s decision to adopt the All Blacks’ approach of ‘No Dickeheads Allowed!’ in the squad has been a positive one.

In fact, this new-found sense of humility, openness and professionalism has left its mark on Eamon Dunphy because as we’ve frequently seen, the pundit has been something of a cheerleader for the English team throughout their campaign in Russia. Dunphy has even said that he hoped that they would win it.

Well, as they’ve frequently done, the Apres Match team have perfectly took the mickey out of Eamo’s predictions about the World Cup winner.

Take a look.

As for the third-place play-off between Belgium and England, we think that “Liam Brady”really put it best.

Gas.
