Paul Grimley’s side prevailed by five points as Meath’s year ended on a damp note.

Armagh will go into the All-Ireland quarter-finals after beating Meath 0-18 to 0-13 at a miserable Croke Park.

With ceaseless rain at Headquarters, Armagh looked to have sealed the deal early when racing into an 0-8 to 0-2 lead in the first half.

However, five unanswered points from the Royals meant there was just a point in it at the break, but an equalising point for Meath was as good as it got.

Armagh seized control and it was 0-15 to 0-10 with just ten minutes remaining on the clock.

Meath needed goals but they were not forthcoming, and while they did have the game’s top scorer in Mickey Newman (0-4),  they ultimately did not have the quality to beat Grimley’s men.
