Don’t you just love it when you put ten quid on an accumulator and it comes good at odds of over 7,000/1? Strewth!

Don’t you just love it when you put ten quid on an accumulator and it comes good at odds of over 7,000/1? Strewth!

Thousands of neutral World Cup fans were delighted to see last night’s clash between Belgium and the USA go to extra-time because it meant another 30 minutes of what had been a pulsating clash up to that point, but one Australian punter had more reason than most to be happy that it finished 0-0 after 90 minutes.

According to Australian betting website sportsbet.com.au, one lucky punter was waking up $71,161AUS richer this morning after correctly predicting the results of all eight of the last 16 ties in the World Cup.

The punter in question, who must have been seriously sweating when Chris Wondolowski spurned a last-gasp chance to win the game in normal time for the USA, correctly predicted that there would be five draws along with regulation-time wins for Colombia, Holland and Nigeria and managed to turn a $10AUS bet into a tidy sum that will probably enable them to go to the next five World Cups with some change left over for another flutter here and there.

We’ve roughly translated the odds from their Australian decimal equivalents below to give you an idea of what this particular punter was dealing with…

Brazil v Chile – Draw @13/4

Colombia v Uruguay – Colombia win @evens

Holland v Mexico – Holland win @11/10

Greece v Costa Rica – Draw @21/10

France v Nigeria – France win @1/2

Germany Algeria – Draw @9/2

Argentina v Switzerland – Draw @10/3

Belgium v USA – Draw @13/5

Commenting on the famous flutter, sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen said: “This is the best multi I’ve ever heard of. The punter probably hasn’t slept for the past four days but I dare say it was worth the ride.”

We doubt they’re going to sleep for the next four days either Christian; at least we wouldn’t if we landed a winner like that.

Some folks have all the luck, eh?
