Bad news rugby fans… The Tullow Tank is set to miss up to six months

The flanker is set to undergo surgery tomorrow...

Irish rugby has been left reeling by the news that Sean O’Brien is set to be on the sidelines for up to six months with a shoulder injury.

Leinster head coach Matt O’Connor confirmed today that the back-row has encountered complications from a procedure on a shoulder injury and will be out for five or six months.

The Tullow man saw a specialist on the injury yesterday and it was decided that he will undergo surgery tomorrow that will rule him out for the considerable future. This will be the second time O’Brien has gone under the knife in the last 12 months having undergone a shoulder reconstruction following an injury in December last year.

O’Brien missed a large chunk of last season with the shoulder problem and this latest news will be a massive blow to both Leinster coach Matt O’Connor and Irish coach Joe Schmidt who looks set to without the flanker for Ireland’s Six Nations defence next spring.
