Bow Echo Retired: Unbeaten Superstar Colt’s Career Cut Short

Unbeaten in three juvenile starts last season, Bow Echo confirmed himself the best of his generation over a mile this year before beating his elders at Goodwood to make it six wins from six. Connections had been considering a first trip to France for this weekend’s Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville. Ridden in all of his outings by 20-year-old Billy Loughnane, the colt provided the young jockey with his first Classic.

Bow Echo ‘an exceptional racehorse’

“It has been the honour of a lifetime to train a horse like Bow Echo. He has given us some extraordinary days and taken everyone involved on a journey we will never forget. To retire unbeaten, having won the 2000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes and Sussex Stakes says everything about what an exceptional racehorse he has been.”

In the statement posted on X, as The 42 reports, the Newmarket trainer also paid tribute to the colt’s late owner-breeder, Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, saying it was “a great sadness that he was not here to see what a lifetime of breeding was able to produce”.
