“We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over!”

It has been announced that Irish welterweight Cathal ‘The Punisher’ Pendred will have an opportunity to extend his winning run alongside his Irish teammates at UFC Boston on January 18.

Pendred has been making waves at 170lbs and will take on American Sean Spencer (12-3) in Boston, where he will be hopeful of another victory to take his win streak to an impressive three.

Pendred has recent wins over Gasan Umalatov as well as Mike King, for which he received a €50,000 dollar bonus for their bout being declared fight of the night at UFC Dublin in July.

It always seemed likely that Pendred would be announced on this card considering he was born in Boston before moving back to Ireland when he was young. His return to the States will surely be celebrated and good support from the Irish in Boston is expected.

The Irish takeover of the Boston fight card is very real with Conor McGregor and Paddy Holohan already chalked down to fight on the night. Considering the rapturous reception that McGregor received when he fought Max Holloway there last year, we can expect a wild night of UFC action from the fighting Irish.

Paddy Holohan will face off against Shane Howell and will be aiming to bounce back from his surprise loss to Chris Kelades last time out. The Notorious, meanwhile, will be up against German fighter Denis Siver.
