RTE have confirmed the switch.
Ireland’s national television broadcaster, RTE, have confirmed that they’ll be showing the Republic of Ireland vs England in the Euro 2025 qualifiers instead of Real Madrid vs Man City.
Due to the two games clashing, Real Madrid vs Man City will now be shown on the RTE player and RTE News channel while Ireland women will be on from 7pm on RTE2 on Tuesday.
After announcing their decision, RTE was inundated with support for choosing to show their own team rather than the Champions League.
One person wrote: “Fair play to RTE. Putting our players first even though it may not be the most popular option.”
Another commented: “Well done for prioritising our own team. There’ll be some gobsh*tes moaning, but there are a plethora of places, including the mentioned above, where they can watch the other game. Besides, gimme McCabe over de Bruyne any day!”
Tomorrow night’s game could be a historic match for the Irish women as they welcome England’s Lionesses to Dublin.
After suffering a 1-0 loss to France last week, Ireland are currently bottom of their group going into the game against England tomorrow.
France scored on Friday in the sixth minute of the game following a set-piece which was knocked into the back-of-the-net by Marie-Antoinette Katoto.
Interestingly, Ireland will move away from their typical home in Tallaght to the Aviva for the England game.
Head coach, Eileen Gleeson, is hopeful that the switch to the Aviva could see a huge attendance for tomorrow’s match.
She said: “It is fantastic to have the opportunity to bring our fans back to the Aviva Stadium again and to hopefully attract many more new fans with the visit of England in April and Sweden in May.”
