UFC 202 by numbers: Some of the key figures ahead of McGregor v Diaz Part II

Alan Loughnane

Some food for thought…

He’s often claimed to be the number one when it comes to numbers and it’s difficult to argue against the common train of thought that he’s the biggest star in the UFC right now.

Controversial, charismatic and above all polemic towards all rivals, in an age of six second vines and Facebook videos flashing on your newsfeed, he provides the perfect combination of brashness and attitude to transform himself into a superstar.

Usually at this stage before a McGregor fight, attention on the UFC star is reaching climax but following a big sporting year, with the Euros and the Olympics to focus on, there’s been a lot less made of his clash.

When you factor in it’s McGregor’s fourth fight in Las Vegas in 12 months, it would be foolish to predict the green army making its way in full force to the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

While attention for the fight isn’t quite at record levels on this side of the Atlantic, there’s still a buzz of anticipation building in America for what most people think is the biggest rematch in UFC history -which is surprising considering the decisive result of the first fight.

But at the end of the day, it’s a numbers game and there’s little opposition at the moment to McGregor’s title as King of the Numbers – not while Ronda Rousey is on hiatus anyway – and this is reflected in some of the startling figures from his career.

1 – The number of times that McGregor’s fights have gone to a decision.

3 – The number of world titles he has won in his career. Two at Cage Warriors and one in the UFC.

5 – The number of times he’s headlined a UFC card. Fight Nights in Dublin and Boston as well as UFC 189, 194 and 196.

7 – The number of wins Conor McGregor has in the UFC, six of those are finishes.

10.1 – $10.1 million is the biggest gate in UFC history, McGregor’s clash with Jose Aldo headlined that card.

13 – The number of seconds it took for The Notorious to KO Jose Aldo in their UFC 194 clash.

19 – The number of wins he has in his career, he has three losses making his record 19-3.

77 – The number of significant strikes Diaz landed on McGregor during their first fight compared to the 61 significant strikes McGregor landed.

85 – Where McGregor placed on Forbes’ Highest Paid Athletes.

168 – The number of days between the first McGregor/Diaz fight and the rematch between the pair.

552 – The seconds it took for Diaz to submit Conor McGregor. In the second round, Diaz hurt him on his feet and submitted him when McGregor dove for a desperation takedown.

250,000 – The amount of dollars that The Notorious has spent on his UFC 202 training camp.
