Conor McGregor has been issued with a boxing licence in California

Maybe that fight with Floyd Mayweather isn’t such a far-fetched idea after all.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has been issued with a boxing licence in the state of Cailfornia. According to well-known and highly regarded MMA pundit Ariel Helwani of mmafighting.com, McGregor was issued with the boxing licence and a federal ID by the Cailfornia State Athletic Commission on Wednesday and the move was confirmed by McGregor’s manager, Audie Attar. https://twitter.com/arielhelwani/status/804145493861351428?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw "He got a license today and a federal ID," California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster told MMAFighting.com. "He's a California boxer now." "He's qualified [as a boxer]," Foster added. "I'd love to see him fight in California. It just needs to be the right opponent. Certainly a high-level opponent. We're happy to license him. We're happy he's a California fighter." "Is it getting any close? I don’t know, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise me that it’s going to happen." News of McGregor being granted a boxing licence comes only days after he was stripped of the UFC featherweight title he won after defeating Jose Aldo in December 2015, ending his brief reign as the only simultaneous two-division champion in the history of the UFC.
