It’s been almost two years since Conor McGregor set foot in the Octagon.

On October 6, Ireland’s best-known fighter will take on Khabib Nurmagomedov in a fight for the UFC lightweight title.

On Thursday evening, the pair faced off for the first time at a press conference in New York’s Madison Square Garden, and McGregor was back to his usual self — wild and unpredictable with antics galore.

The event had originally been slated to start at 10pm Irish time, but McGregor being McGregor, there was little chance of that happening.

The Crumlin man used the press conference as an opportunity to talk about his new whiskey (Proper No. 12), even offering some to UFC President Dana White and his opponent Khabib.

One of the most intense moments came when McGregor and Khabib finally faced-off, and the scene summed up the difference in approach from both men. Khabib stood firm and silent while McGregor got up in his face, speaking the whole time, before White eventually got between the pair to break it up.

You can watch the face-off below:

Conor McGregor carried both his belts — from the lightweight and featherweight divisions of the UFC — while Khabib wore his interim belt from the lightweight division.

Their upcoming fight will decide the true lightweight champ.
