This would be huge…

Conor McGregor didn’t compete in the UFC at all in 2017, and instead set his sights on making a lot of quick cash with a fight against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather.

The fight went as expected with the professional boxer relatively comfortably beating the man who isn’t a professional boxer in a boxing match. Who could have predicted it?

But following a dabble in the sport of boxing, talk has continued about when we can expect Conor McGregor to return to the octagon.

Dana White hasn’t exactly helped matters with his handling of the Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson fight, where he refused to say that McGregor was stripped of the title, but still claims the duo are fighting for the title.

“I said in the last press conference that fight will be for the title. It’s not for the interim title, that fight will be for the title,” White said to TMZ this week.

But, McGregor has not been stripped of his title as far as we know, and according to new reports coming out, he may soon be back competing in the UFC.

MMA Fighting’s Dave Meltzer reported on his (subscription only) newsletter that discussions are going well for a return this year.

“The word is that negotiations with Conor McGregor are going well,” wrote Meltzer. “No deal to return has been inked but they are said to be not so far apart and are in talks about him doing two fights in 2018.”

“All the pub right now is Mayweather under MMA rules but I can’t see Mayweather agreeing to that, even though it’s huge money,” Meltzer noted. “The UFC fight idea is the winner of Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov.”
