All this talk of floods and famine – but why can’t someone think of multi-millionaire footballer Cristiano Ronaldo?

There is no doubting that being a footballer is not all fun and games. There’s the incessant and intrusive scrutiny of your personal life for starters.

And it can’t be fun having a tens of thousands in the stands – as well as millions of others at home in their armchairs – baying for your blood when you’re not performing.

But generally, most professional players accept that they’ve got it pretty sweet and that they’re living the dream. You’re essentially doing what you love for sh*tloads of money.

Cristiano Ronaldo is of course one of the most high profile footballers around and so he can’t live a normal life. It’s understandable that that would sometimes get him down.

But his latest comments about how tough his life is are bordering on parody. Mainly because they have nothing to do with pressure or privacy or the lonely hollow shell of celebrity…but not having time off.

Ahead of Real Madrid’s game with Valencia, Ronaldo gave this example to Papel about how difficult being Ronaldo really is…

“You can say you have the best job, money, cars, houses…but that is not everything.

“One example: On Saturday there’s boxing on in Las Vegas and I would like to take my family and friends, but I can’t because I have no time. But after [football] I want to live like a king.”

Poor bloke. Imagine a footballer having to prepare and train ahead of a football match. Oh the humanity!
