Director of football Mark Connolly will take charge of the Candystripes on an interim basis.

The Belfast native had presided over a disappointing 2026 campaign, with the Foylesiders currently sixth in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

With just five points clear of the relegation play-off spot with 10 games remaining, his position had been the subject of much debate in recent weeks.

As RTÉ Sport reported, Lynch had clashed publicly with former Republic of Ireland 100-cap winger James McClean, one of a raft of high-profile signings made ahead of a season that began with high expectations.

The 35-year-old took to social media in recent weeks to voice his displeasure at goings-on at the Brandywell.

A brief club statement read: "Derry City Football Club can confirm that it has today parted company with First Team Manager Tiernan Lynch.

"The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tiernan for his professionalism, commitment and hard work during his time at Derry City.

"Mark Connolly will assume responsibility for first team affairs on an interim basis."

Lynch was appointed on a three-year contract in November 2024 and guided Derry to a second-place finish behind Shamrock Rovers last season.

He previously won two Irish League titles with Larne and reached the Conference League group stage in 2024/25.

Derry host Sligo Rovers in their next League of Ireland fixture on Friday night.
