Evan Ferguson: Brighton boss gives injury update

Good news for Ferguson

Ireland striker Evan Ferguson is edging closer to a return, with Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler confirming the forward is making “daily progress” in his recovery from ankle surgery.

The update will cheer Ireland supporters after another injury-hit season for the 21-year-old.

Ferguson has been sidelined since March, when an ankle problem cut short his loan spell at AS Roma.

He managed five goals in 22 appearances in a mixed spell in Serie A, the latest setback in a career repeatedly interrupted by injury since his breakthrough at Brighton in the 2022/23 campaign, when 10 goals in 25 games earned him a contract until 2028.

Hurzeler was brief but positive when asked about the striker's rehabilitation. His projected return is October, and after loan spells at West Ham and Roma, Ferguson may finally be integrated back into the Brighton squad rather than sent out for a third successive season.

"Stefanos Tzimas and Evan Ferguson are in rehab. Stef is the closest but Ferguson is making daily progress."

It is a welcome lift for a player Ireland fans hope can rediscover the form of his teenage years.
