This week, we’ve seen the best of the GAA community.
When Kildare manager Cian O’Neill and the Kildare GAA took the brave stand of refusing to give up their home advantage and play their 3rd round SFC match against Mayo in Croke Park, it seemed as though their championship could be coming to a close.
The GAA seemed prepared to turf the Lilywhites out of the competition for refusing to play at Croker, before the entire community around the sport sided with Kildare on the matter.
Eventually, Kildare were allowed to play the game in Newbridge — and the story had a fairytale ending on Saturday when Kildare narrowly beat last year’s runners-up Mayo, with a score of 0-21 to 0-19.
Kildare GAA’s Twitter page later shared a video that captured the jubilant scenes at the final whistle (though, given the small size of the ground, it’s not hard to find a few angry Mayo supporters in the mix).
