In light of Gareth Bale copyrighting his ‘Eleven of Hearts’ thing, here’s a few GAA celebrations that deserve to be protected.

While it is hard not to just shake your head at the news that Gareth Bale has trademarked his hands-based goal celebration today, it got us thinking in JOE Towers; are there any GAA celebratiosn that deserve to be given similar status?

In fairness, there’s not many in the world of Gaelic games, with a manly handshake the extent of the exuberance even in 2013, but a few celebrations do stand out.

Conor Mortimer’s Jacko tribute

The Mayo forward is a big Michael Jackson fan so when he scored a goal against Galway in the 2009 Connacht final he revealed a specially scrawled tribute to the King of Pop on his undershirt. Yes he spelled Michael wrong but we’re all for a bit of craic so Mort’s message is an all-time great GAA celebration.

Seamus Darby jumps for joy

To end Kerry’s bid for five-in-a-row in the most dramatic fashion possible should merit a Ryan Giggs 1999 FA Cup semi-final style celebration. So kudos to Offaly’s Seamus Darby for just jumping up and down on the spot after that infamous goal.

Joe Canning’s ‘You Can’t See Me’

Trademarking this move might get Joe into conflict with WWE star John Cena but it’s a fight we’d like to see.

Davy Fitz skips back to his goal

This is one that only works for goalies and Clare’s current boss Davy Fitzgerald was the master of the driven penalty followed by a mad dash/celebration combo on the run back. What he lacks in elevation, he makes up for in joy.

Joe Brolly’s kisses

Even though it is over 20 years since we first saw it, the Derry man’s famous celebration of blowing kisses (main pic) to the crowd is still the most famous GAA celebration of all. Trademark it now Joe, before it’s too late.

And if we forgot any classic, do let us know…
