The return of the Barclays Premier League is just around the corner and with Sky Sports bringing you 116 games plus more of the best experts and analysis, Monday evenings are about to get interesting all over again.
RTE’s football coverage rarely fails to entertain and the likes of ITV, BT Sport and the BBC have their moments, but a large percentage of football fans would argue that Monday Night Football on Sky Sports is the king when it comes to the world of football analysis.
Gary Neville had already established a reputation as an incredibly insightful and entertaining pundit before the start of last season, when a number of eyebrows were raised after it emerged that he would be joined in the studio by Jamie Carragher for the 2013/14 campaign.
The sceptics had a lot of questions. Would they work as a partnership? Would Carragher steal Neville’s thunder? Was there a chance that a former Manchester United player and a former Liverpool player would end up becoming embroiled in embarrassing, on-screen arguments purely out of loyalty to their former employers?
As it turned out, Neville and Carragher struck up a brilliant partnership, coming up with excellent insights both on their own and as a duo and surprising fans of United, Liverpool and football in general with the ease in which they appeared to be in each other’s company as the season progressed.
We’re looking forward to seeing what’s in store when they come together again for the season ahead, when Sky Sports brings you more of the games that matter. The opening few weeks of the season will feature some huge fixtures including reigning champions Manchester City in action against both Liverpool and Chelsea, Arsenal travelling to Everton and Tottenham Hotspur hosting Liverpool.
To whet the appetite for what’s in store, here are some of Neville and Carragher’s best moments together from their first season on Monday Night Football.
