Have you seen the lyrics to Ireland’s new Euro 2012 song?

It’s the song we’ll all be singing in the summer, so you might as well try and learn off the words to ‘The Rocky Road to Poland’ as soon as you can.

It’s the song we’ll all be singing in the summer, so you might as well try and learn off the words to ‘The Rocky Road to Poland’ as soon as you can.

The lyrics were chosen by listeners to the Ray D’Arcy Show on Today FM with Damien Dempsey and producer John Reynolds choosing the best of thousands of entries to make up the final draft of the song, which goes to the tune of the Dubliners classic ‘The Rocky Road to Dublin’.

A troupe of Irish musicians, including the Dubliners, Dempsey, Bressie and Danny O’Reilly from the Coronas are believed to have recorded the track at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin today. As well as being the anthem for Irish supporters at home and in Polkraine during the summer, it will also raise funds for the John Giles Foundation and the Shave or Dye campaign that has been run on Today FM in recent years.

Music fans familiar with ‘The Rocky Road to Dublin’ will know that’s it not exactly the easiest song to sing and you’d want to have fairly big lung capacity because there ain’t much chance to catch your breath throughout. Check out the lyrics to the song below and see if you’re able to sing along.

The song is due to be released in April and we’re sure the lads will do a fine job. Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn out like any of these so-called football anthems.

Rocky Road to Poland

T’was in the merry month of June, from our home we started,
Left old Eireann’s Isle, to Poland we departed,
Hope within our hearts, we can win the trophy,
We are all a part of Trapattoni’s army,
Get behind the team, hear the Irish scream,
C’mon you boys in green, Ireland’s bouncing back again,
We have got our Trap, the cat is in the sack,
We’ll not forget you Jack, On the rocky road to Poland.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five,
Irish eyes are smiling,
Let your voices ring
Trapattoni’s army,
Everybody sing.

You’ll never beat the Irish x 4

Make your mother proud, inflate your plastic hammer,
Bate your bodhrán loud and learn your Polish grammar,
Credit Union loan, sold the Opel Corsa,
Hired a camper van, picked it up in Warsaw,
Been so close before, hopes slammed in the door,
Now we’re back for more, we can win the battle,
C’mon you boys in green, never have we seen,
Such a fearless team, on the rocky road to Poland.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five,
Irish eyes are smiling,
Let your voices ring
Trapattoni’s army,
Everybody sing.

You’ll never beat the Irish x 4

Ireland Abú. We love
