Here are the big winners from tonight’s FAI awards

Carl Kinsella

It’s been a great year for Irish football.

After Poland beat us on the continent and sentenced us to yet another play-off, Martin O’Neill’s hopes of a spot at the Euros in France this summer looked rather slim.

However, thanks to Jon Walters and some thick fog in Zenica – we’re one of 24 teams vying for top European honours in just a few months time.

Walters was rightly honoured for his contribution to the campaign, scooping up the Senior International Player of the Year award.

Robbie Brady, who scored in that first leg against Bosnia and Herzegovina, was the winner of the Young Player of the Year.

Lastly, Shane Long took home the award for Goal of the Year for his unforgettable winner against world champions Germany in the Aviva stadium… But just in case you have forgotten…
