In what is a massive blow for Ireland’s own UFC star, Conor McGregor could be out of the Octagon for up to ten months after a scan revealed a tear of the cruciate ligament in his knee.
McGregor, who only last weekend won the second UFC fight of his career when defeating Max Holloway in Boston, spoke after that fight of how he felt a pop in his knee during the second round and how he felt it prevented him from finishing Holloway off, even if it didn’t stop him from claiming what was a pretty emphatic victory.
Only yesterday, McGregor took to Twitter – it wasn’t the only thing he said on Twitter yesterday – to tell his followers that he thought that the damage to his knee was minor and that he expected to be back in three or four weeks max ahead of appearances on UFC cards in Manchester and Las Vegas in the coming months.
M.R.I scan tomorrow to see about my knee. Hoping 3/4 weeks max. If so I can do Manchester card, aswell as Vegas. Forget that waiting shit.

Unfortunately for McGregor, the prognosis was far worse than he or anyone in his camp had expected as Dana White revealed to Fox Sports Live last night that the Dubliner had suffered a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament, a strain to his medial collateral ligament and a meniscal tear of his posterior horn and that he could be out of action for anything up to ten months.
The news comes as a huge blow to a man who has taken the UFC by storm since his debut in Sweden in April when he knocked out Marcus Brimage in 67 seconds, but McGregor had to work very hard to get where he is and as massive a setback as this is, we’ve no doubt he’ll come back better than ever. Judging by his most recent tweet, he seems determined to prove that that’s exactly what will happen.
I celebrate adversity. Congratulations. Your favourite fighter is safe. For 10 months. #AintNothing I’ll do it on my back. EASY!!!!

We wish him all the best in his recovery.
