The all-important Six Nations permutations for Ireland going into England’s clash with France

St. Patrick’s Day just got a whole lot more interesting…

France vs England gets underway at 4.45pm, as Ireland eye the Grand Slam after their emphatic, hard-fought victory over Scotland on Saturday.

With England next up at Twickenham on St. Patrick’s Day of all days, here’s how it looks for Ireland ahead of that France/England face-off.

If France beat England…

If France triumph on Saturday, Ireland are Six Nations champions. Huzzah!

If England win without a bonus point…

Ireland are crowned champions.

If England win with a bonus point…

England can still finish level with Ireland should they enjoy a bonus point victory at Twickenham on St. Patrick’s Day.

If France and England draw…

Ireland are crowned champions.

While it would be nice to see Ireland named champions today, surely there’s something more tantalising if we’re heading over to England’s back yard with the championship and the Grand Slam on the line.

But the real winner, of course, is basic maths.
