Ireland have plummeted in the FIFA world rankings since losing to Denmark

Ireland’s 5-1 humiliation at the hands of Christian Eriksen and his mates last week has seen the team fall six places in FIFA’s world rankings.

Following a tame 0-0 draw in Copenhagen, the crucial tie in the Aviva has seen Ireland fall from 26th places to 32nd place in the rankings — which become important at play-off time when seeding decides which teams we can play.

The massive win did great things for the Danes however, who have leapt from 19th place all the way up to 12th. Denmark have overtaken England as well, who have dropped all the way to 15th place after a litany of draws. 15th is the lowest that England have sat in the rankings in 17 years (so at least it’s not all bad news.)

Northern Ireland’s defeat to Switzerland has only cost them one spot, and they are eight places ahead of the Republic in 24th.

There are no changes in the top five, where Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium top the rankings (in that order).
