Ireland may have exited Euro 2016, but not without setting a few records first.

Originally, Ireland’s win against Italy was the highest-rating programmed of the year so far on RTÉ, but that has been surpassed by Ireland’s round of 16 clash with France.

An average of 1.26m viewers tuned in to watch the Boys in Green take on the hosts in Lyon.

83% of the audience at the time were tuned into the game and it peaked at 1.34m viewers in the final minutes of the game.

This makes it the highest-rating television programme on RTÉ this year so far.

Added to this, 130,000 watched the action unfold on the RTÉ Player.

Ireland’s match with Italy, which previously held the record, had garnered an average audience of 1.23m viewers last Wednesday.
