Irish cyclist Sam Bennett has a great response to a cycling magazine that called him British

Carl Kinsella

One of the best declarations of Irishness we’ve heard in a long while.

Usually when the non-Irish media mischaracterises our best and brightest as British, we’ll all be up in arms – except for the celebs themselves, who are usually too polite to actually kick up any kind of fuss.

Irish cyclist Sam Bennett is the exception to this rule, putting Cycle Sport Magazine to rights after they’d referred to him as British on Twitter.

Bennett immediately set them straight, showing off some serious Gaeilge chops in the process.

For those of you who may be rusty, we will translate: “Excuse me @cyclesportsmag, but I’m Irish. Thank you all for the support and the kind words.”

We won’t translate the emoji.
