A bumbling FIFA official was the cause of this blow-up, I know…an inept soccer official, that’s a rarity.
Ireland were 2-0 down and melting in the heat of the Citrus Bowl in California when Big Jack tried to make a substitution, unfortunately a meddlesome FIFA official prevented this going ahead.
John and Jack blew their Scouse and Geordie tops at the injustice of it, dropping the “f” bomb on more than one occasion.
Jack was banned for the next match, but Aldo did get on the pitch and that substitution proved inspired as his goal from a McAteer cross ensured that Ireland finished second in the group and qualified for the next round, despite the 2-1 loss.
The FIFA official in the yellow hat was immortalized in the below song.
