It looks like Conor McGregor could be stripped of his featherweight title

Before knocking out Eddie Alvarez, Conor McGregor spoke at length about how badly he wanted to hold two UFC division belts at the same time and wear one on each shoulder...

He got his wish just a few weekends ago, but appears that the UFC will be stepping in to see that the "Champ Champ" is only the champion of the lightweight division. Max Holloway vs Anthony Pettis has been announced as the main event for UFC 206 and the bout will be for the interim featherweight title. Jose Aldo had previously won the interim featherweight title against Frankie Edgar in the summer. For his part, McGregor has not fought at this weight class since seizing the title from Aldo in December of 2015 and does not appear to have any plans to fight at featherweight again. As it stands, the winner of Holloway vs Pettis would then fight Aldo for the unification of the featherweight title — consigning McGregor's reign to the history books. According to high-profile UFC pundit Ariel Helwani: "UFC has been pushing to strip McGregor of the 145 title for some time. Legally, they can. Would be interesting to see how he responds..." Now that the interim title fight has been announced, we can expect Conor McGregor to come out all guns blazing. He's proved in the past that he's not scared of any confrontation with the UFC, so it'll be interesting to see what he has to say about this.
