Congrats Jamie...

He will take over the reins from the retiring Leo Cullen…

Irish and Leinster number eight, Jamie Heaslip, will captain Leinster for their upcoming season in the Guinness Pro12 and Rugby Champions Cup.

The Kildare man will be ably assisted by Sean O’Brien and Rob Kearney as the province gives way to a new set of leaders following the end of the Cullen/O’Driscoll era.

Heaslip has amassed 180 caps for the eastern province, has previously captained both Leinster and Ireland under the tenure of Declan Kidney, and he is one of the most experienced players on the books at Leinster.

Although Leinster didn’t have the success they wanted in Europe last season, they have a solid platform to build off having won the Pro12 last season. This year, they will be hoping to reaffirm themselves as the best side in Europe following two slightly disappointing seasons in the now extinct Heineken Cup.

Leinster kick off their campaign with a tough Pro 12 away fixture against last year’s beaten finalists, Glasgow Warriors, on the 6th of September. Good luck Jamie!
